MCGS MUN'26
UNITED NATIONS OF general assembly
AGENDA: Governing the Geopolitics of Rare Earths and Critical Minerals
The United Nations General Assembly is the main forum where all member states of the United Nations discuss global issues and develop international cooperation. This agenda focuses on the geopolitical importance of rare earth elements and critical minerals used in modern technologies such as electronics, renewable energy systems, and defense equipment. Control over these resources has become a strategic concern for many countries, particularly major producers like China. Unequal distribution of these minerals can create supply chain risks and geopolitical tensions. The committee therefore debates frameworks to ensure fair access, sustainable extraction, and responsible trade of these resources. It also considers environmental impacts and the need for international cooperation in resource governance. The aim is to promote stability and equitable management of critical minerals in the global economy.
All position papers must be submitted no later than 1/04/2026 23:59 IST.
