INTERNATIONAL COURT OF JUSTICE
AGENDA: Case Concerning Cross-Border Armed Violence and Firearm Trafficking (Mexico v. United States)
The International Court of Justice is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, responsible for settling legal disputes between states under international law. In this agenda, the case is brought by Mexico against the United States regarding cross-border armed violence and the trafficking of firearms. Mexico argues that the illegal flow of weapons from the United States contributes significantly to organized crime and violence within its territory. The case raises important questions about state responsibility, arms regulation, and international cooperation against illegal weapons trade. The court must examine evidence and legal arguments under international law to determine accountability. It also highlights broader concerns regarding cross-border security and the global impact of illicit firearm trafficking. Ultimately, the ICJ’s deliberations focus on interpreting legal obligations between states and ensuring justice through peaceful dispute resolution.
All position papers must be submitted no later than 1/04/2026 23:59 IST.
