UNITED NATIONS OFFICE ON DRUGS AND CRIME
AGENDA: Reforming Global Drug Governance: Human Rights Violations, Death Penalty Abuse, Narcoterrorism & Corruption in the Middle East, Latin America & South Asia
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime works under the United Nations to combat drug trafficking, organized crime, corruption, and terrorism worldwide. This agenda focuses on reforming global drug governance while addressing serious human rights concerns linked to drug control policies. In several regions such as the Middle East, Latin America, and South Asia, strict drug laws have sometimes resulted in human rights violations and the misuse of capital punishment. The issue also highlights the connection between drug trafficking networks and extremist or terrorist groups, often referred to as Narcoterrorism. Corruption within political and law enforcement institutions further complicates efforts to control the drug trade. The committee therefore debates reforms that balance effective drug control with respect for human rights and international law. Its goal is to promote cooperative strategies that reduce drug trafficking while strengthening justice systems and governance globally.
All position papers must be submitted no later than 1/04/2026 23:59 IST.
